Wildcats LEAD, our 6th grade leadership group, is partnering with Sole Hope, an organization whose mission is to help those in Uganda suffering from foot related diseases caused by jiggers. Jiggers are parasites that burrow into the feet and hands of children and elderly adults. These jiggers make it so children may not be able to attend school, play, or even walk. Jiggers are not like chiggers we have here in the U.S. which is a common misconception!
Wildcats LEAD students raised over $1,400 in monetary donations and so far, have cut enough denim and plastic to make 22 pairs of shoes! We have more denim to cut which will allow us to make even more shoes! We are so thankful for our numerous donors! We had many families in the village donate as well as teachers, students, and Omnova!
Wildcats LEAD is still collecting donations. Ms. Isabella was kind enough to get us started with the shoe kit (which provides the pattern for the shoes as well as the financial contribution for the operational costs for the first 10 pairs of shoes to be shipped to Uganda, made in Uganda, transporting and delivering to those in need, and medical attention). Each pair of shoes (after the first 10 we cut) require us to donate $10 per pair to cover the above costs for those additional shoes.
If you would like to support our 6th grade leaders in their efforts with this service project, please contact Miss Campailla (email@example.com) or Miss Castilow (firstname.lastname@example.org) on ways you can help!
